Hashi.org Announces Korean Scholarship 2012 Winner!

올해로 Hashi.org 대한한국 대학생 대상 여행장학금 수혜자를 발표합니다.

Hashi.org is proud to announce the winner of the 6th annual Travel Scholarship to a Korean citizen!
The number of applications received exceeded previous application periods, and we received many, fine applications, with essays describing a variety of backgrounds.

But our winner is a senior at Michigan State University, majoring in Global Studies in Art and Humanities.
She came here from Korea to the U.S. to study abroad in 2009.

She’ll be using the scholarship to participate in a program held by The Japan Center for Michigan Universities (JCMU). The center has a study abroad program, a product of the strong sister-state relationship between the State of Michigan and Shiga Prefecture. It is located on the shore of Lake Biwa in the City of Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. For the first three weeks of the program, she will take a course to further develop her language skills with new vocabulary, phrasing and honorific language appropriate for the workplace.

After improving her professional Japanese language, she is going to attend a 9-week internship. Internships are available in a variety of different fields, including business, education, government, etc. She’ll be expected to contribute to the best of her ability in a Japanese-language environment. She believes that she can build better relationships between Japanese, Americans, and other nationalities through active learning and participation in language, culture, family life and society.

Our judges of the applications found this scholarship decision one of the hardest one yet. With so many worthy applicants, with admirable accomplishments and aspirations, it was extremely difficult to choose just one. But the winner’s application proved to be the finest example of the ideals and goals of hashi.org. While there were many worthy submissions, Hashi.org is proud to award a $1,000 travel scholarship to Sae Lom Kim! Congratulations!
